ZilkRoad
A circular fashion use case
Annually, textile manufacturing releases around 1.2 billion tons of greenhouse gases. The EU textile industry generates waste estimated at 16 million tonnes per year. Much of this waste is thrown in landfills or incinerated, with a high environmental impact and at great cost. Only 1% of clothes are recycled into new ones.
End of life management of textile is a burning problem both economically and environmentally. Increasingly huge costs and manual labor are incurred by the recycling centers to sort and pre-process textile waste that is collected before recycling. The textile industry lacks a seamless process that engages consumers in the waste management process.
ZilkRoad aims to address this problem by empowering the consumer to change towards a more sustainable fashion consuming lifestyle and actively engage in the textile end-of-life management process by getting rewarded for their sustainable efforts. The platform streamlines the reverse-logistics workflow of textile clothing from the consumer to recycling centers or waste management centers of the connected textile brands.
